    13 million hectares of forest were lost from 2000 to 2010 (ITTO International Tropical Timber Organization) Agricultural development is one of the reasons for this deforestation. The benefits of agricultural developments are significant for residents. On the other hands, If forest protection is important for the world, what brings them better benefits than agricultural developments? It is necessary not to undermine the interests of residents for the cause of other regions, but also to benefit from participating, and to actively embark on forest conservation in order to nurture forests.Considering the global issue of forest conservation, we deal with tourism in nature, especially forest bathing in this paper. Tourists not only give money for local people, but also gives people the perception that forests are not a hindrance to cultivation, but rather meaningful resources for themselves. Research in Japan has been studying the stress reduction effects of forest bathing in the last 10 years. There are physical declines in stress hormones such as blood pressure, pulse and salivary cortisol, promotion of parasympathetic nerve activity, and decreased sympathetic nerve activity even in forest bathing for about 20 minutes (Koyama, 2009). There is also research (Takeda, 2009) that analyzed the atmosphere of forests and measured phytoncide components such as terpenes emanated from trees. It told that forest bathing is effective in reducing physical and mental parts. However, these are often influenced by weather and personal factors of subjects (Alpine,2012). In addition, since the measurement method is complicated for the physiological part, it has not reached the investigation of the scale which can be general-purpose. Research originated in Japan on forest bathing is progressing overseas aiming at the elimination of Over tourism now. We had experiments in Oku-Nikko, the Natural Park in Japan on September and November 2021. We tried to measure effects of forest bathing by performing the degrees of relaxation using EEG Measurement:αwaves increased in certain areas, and multiple subjective evaluations. The participants walked in the forest wearing bandana with simple electroencephalography on the experiments. Though temperatures and deciduous conditions are different in September and in November, effects of forest bathing were observed in both experiments. It is about 26,27℃ in the forest of Oku-Nikko on September. On the other hands, we had the experiment not as high as 10℃ on November. It seems that the situations are not so suitable for experiments in the forest bathing because of the large temperature gap. However, forest bathing has become a hot topic in foreign countries and the compositions of forests varies enclosing temperature are different among those countries. Therefore, considering such different phases is useful for our research, we will lead to the versatility of forest bathing. Participants walked some courses on September. One group walked the same 30-minute course at the forest along a fall in September (n=3) and November (n=10). According to the results of Positive and Negative Affect Schedule(PANAS)scales of 13 participants (yes/no answer), total numbers of “yes” were increased from18 at the start point to 34 after walking. The answer “active” increased from3to 11after the walking in the forest (60 minutes walking). All participants were 20s. They answered that they liked to walk in the nature. However, 5 of them answered the average exercise time per week is less than an hour and 3 participants answered 1 hour or less than 3 hours, 4 participants answered 3 hours or less than 5 hours and only 1 participant answered he exercises 5 hours or less than 10 hours per week. On the other hands, negative items decreased from 14 to 6 after walking in the forest. In addition, αwave came out loudly when 3 participants stopped to see a waterfall which was flowing sideways of the forest in September. According to our experiments, there is a possibility that forest bathing makes people feel better regardless of temperature. Participants became positive after walking in the forest. We have to proceed to analyze the date for subjective evaluation and will examine the EEG data on November, too.We started to research and will continue to use EEG measurement and will have subjective evaluation to enhance evidence for forest bathing enclosing other countries. The forests in Thailand are so different from Japanese ones. Thailand have had too many tourists in several famous cities before COVID-19. There are great forests in Thailand. We will cooperate and will find the common effects of forest bathing. In addition, informing tourists themselves of the effects of forest bathing on the spot using incorporating the brain wave measurement function into the app in the future, it will be useful for new tourism after COVID-19.

    We have been studying a sightseeing support application using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons and mobile phones since 2014 to support sightseeing in Nikko, one of Japan’s World Heritage sites. Travelers can receive information relating to their position by using this application. We tried to use some psychological effects to increase travelers’ satisfaction when they receive such information. Moreover, we tried to emphasize travel memories of the place (scenery, culture, food, etc.) to encourage them to revisit or inspire their friends to visit it. Our tests prove the usefulness of our sightseeing support application for enhancing the travel experience. However, we had not yet developed a function to provide information that met the travelers’ intentions or needs. Moreover, it is hazardous to use a smartphone during walking, especially in an unfamiliar place. If a traveler uses a smartphone during walking, they might miss the beautiful scenery, historic buildings, and exotic atmosphere. We tried to adapt our sightseeing support application for use with a wearable device (smartwatch) to avoid using a smartphone during walking and introduced a prospect theory to evaluate information according to personal interest and behavior. Our experiments proved that our application provided the most appropriate sightseeing information to travelers and prevented danger during walking.

    Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) is now becoming popular for long-range license-free wireless communication technology. Bluetooth and WiFi are commonly used for the license-free near field communication technique. However, they can cover 100 m or near. LPWA can provide news services for long distance communication in the rural area. We have been developing a sightseeing support application using BLE beacon for six years near the World Heritage “Nikko” and now expanding a service area to “Oku-Nikko” where is a mountain area with huge mush and waterfalls, lakes, and mountains. A sightseeing support application for Oku-Nikko requires to provide information about safety since there is a mountain area. For that purpose, it is essential to observe hikers in the broad field, and low cost, long distance telecommunication system is required. To design the tourist support network in Oku-Nikko, we firstly understand the transmission model of LoRa. For that purpose, we performed some test to measure the transmission distance of LoRa in different environments. In this paper, we would like to explain an experiment of LoRa in Nikko National Park and around Utsunomiya University. We discuss that results of the experiment show the one possibility to explain the transmission model of LoRa in Oku-Nikko and Utsunomiya was Okumura-Hata model.

    According to the spread of mobile devices such as a mobile phone, it is expected to use ICT (Information and Communication Technology) for sightseeing services. In Japan, the Tourism Authority of Japan has started to promote to use a smartphone application to support inbound traveler. In this situation, we are developing a sightseeing support application using BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) beacon in the Nikko area. In the paper, we proposed a design method to design a sightseeing application applying two psychological effects, one is the Zeigarnik Effect, and another is Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Then we explain the trial and how the trial was failed. We also explain how to solve the problem that appeared during the trial.

    Tourists use smartphone applications while traveling. Some applications are the same as their general use. Others are inclosing special contents for the area they are traveling.     We mention the outline of a trial of tourist navigation system using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacon for sightseeing in Nikko to provide information about attractive cultures and comparison between for pedestrian and car/bike. These beacons are installed on signboards on the road and shops. We first explain the background of this research and related works. Then we describe the outline of our application to provide the information and knowledge of culture and history while walking the approach to the Tosyogu-shrine. We discuss how to layout the beacons to realize the sightseeing support navigation system for the visitors in Nikko. We mention that BLE beacon in outdoor worked well and if visitors are walking, they can find almost all beacons. The central theme of this paper is how BLE beacons work for travelers on a car or a bike in Nikko. Unfortunately, there are little researches to use BLE beacons for high-speed objects. To analyze this problem, we performed a trial to get information from a BLE beacon in a running vehicle. We founded that a smartphone received information from almost all BLE beacons by the receivers on a car or a bike. However, the order of the beacons is not in order as we expected and that caused problems if the coverage area of a beacon is overlapped. At last, we propose a simple formula to estimate the appropriate layout of beacons when we design the BLE beacon network for sightseeing by using a car or a bike.

    In this paper, we propose a design process of mobile phone application for the sightseeing. For that purpose, we introduced two psychological effects, Zeigarnik Effect and Maslow's hierarchy of needs. We mainly discuss how we applied Maslow's hierarchy of needs to design UI of sightseeing application. We firstly listed up elements of information of sightseeing and classified them using Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Then we defined the method to calculate priority of those elements of information and functions according to those elements. Based on this analysis, we designed a sightseeing support application for Oku-Nikko. The result of experiment displayed the effectiveness of our design method.

    A large amount of information is not always appealing to tourists. We developed a new application using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacons that not only provides a guide to a specific location but also provides the traditional customs and history of the area as an easter egg. In this paper, we discuss a system development process for IoT system of development of our sightseeing support system for IoT system. We extract the development model that is suitable for developing a service that uses devices embedded in environment and maintaining it.

    In this paper, we discuss the effectiveness of our cognitive model for sightseeing support system using BLE beacon in Nikko, a world cultural heritage in Japan. We introduced Zeigarnik Effect to design the cognitive model. In this cognitive model, an unknown part remains in our memory during a trip and that part is transformed to be an unknown expectation after the trip, and this unknown expectation will be a driver to visit there again. Last year, we performed a trial to check the effectiveness of our cognitive model and application. As the result, we found that our cognitive model could increase expectation of the trip. In addition, we extend the cognitive model to increase visitors to Nikko.

    In this paper, we explained a result of trial in 2014 and 2015 of navigation system using BLE beacon for sightseeing in Nikko. We firstly explain the result of a research of characteristics of visitors to Nikko. From the questionnaire to visitors of Nikko, to support young people (20th) and foreigners by ICT are important. Especially to solve problems of transportation and to provide information of shopping and eating location are important. Also, to give them the culture and history in Nikko area is important. For that purpose, we designed a cognitive model for travel based on Zeigarnik Effect to increase expectation by adding unknown part. Then we designed a trial application that works with BLE beacon and performed trial to evaluate the usefulness of navigation system using BLE beacon for sightseeing and effect of quiz to emphasis expectation of travel in Nikko. We found that BLE beacon in outdoor worked well and if visitors are walking, they can find almost all beacons in 2014. The result of the quiz rally in September 2015 shows that more difficult questions caused higher satisfaction.

    Information and Communication Technology offers different types of information. However, a large amount of that information is not appealing for tourists. To determine what comprises relevant information for tourists, we developed a new smartphone application that provides not only a guide to specific locations but also comprehensively summarizes the traditional customs and history of the area. For example, our trial application provides information relating to Japanese traditional rules for visiting shrines and temples. To realize this application, we introduced a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacon that collaborates with the smartphone application to display information at the appropriate points. We found that the BLE beacon worked well for outdoor sightseeing done on foot.

    We have been developing IDDD (Information Delivery System for Deaf People in a Major Disaster) system [7, 8] from 2007. In 2012, we have a chance to develop new IDDD system and test it at the school for the deaf in Miyagi. In this paper, we report the results the system performance test and the users evaluation of the new IDDD based on an experiment at the school for the deaf in Miyagi. As the result, the network performance was increased and application development cost might be half of that of the old IDDD. Also, Fast-Scroll is most legible for hearing impairments people. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

    In Japan, 53% of children from 10 years old to 17 years old use mobile phones. Filtering technology and systems to protect children are progressing day by day, however, they are still liable to become victims of crime through community sites and 1,239 trouble cases were published in 2010. It is strongly required that children should learn how to treat information on mobile phones. In this paper, we discuss our learning model to learn literacy of mobile phone and the result of our experiment to learn literacy of mobile phone using our model and tool. We call the tool PNS (Pupils Network System) that is designed based on our survey at an elementary school in Tokyo for four years. We confirmed that our methodology is useful to learn literacy of mobile phone. © 2013 River Publishers.

    日光における調査研究はコロナ禍において特に外国人観光客の激減の中、翻訳を中心に進める点には困難もあった。在住外国人を集めてのヒアリング調査はコロナ禍で実施できなかった。しかし、駅から神橋周辺までの1kmの範囲内の言語景観の継続調査、また神戸との比較に関しては順調に続行ができ、対象を絞った研究ができた。外国人観光客に対する調査はできなかったが、日光市図書館の協力を得て、明治時代から大正昭和の観光地日光における言語景観につながる資料を調べるなども実施することができた。また、門前町日光の言語景観の中に表出する文化的要素を抽出することもでき、考察を進めた。
    外国人観光客の減少は日本語表記の増加も招いたが、一方で日本人用のアルファベット表記の増加が見られるなど、急激な社会状況に応じた変化を遂げ、その状況を調査できた点は今後の研究に有用であった。
    研究者は各自の視点で研究を続行し、それぞれに成果を出したのみならず、オンラインではあったが、日本認知科学会第38回大会においては「多元化する異文化体験:COVID-19後に楽しく観光するために」と題してオーガナイズドセッションを開催し、協力した研究の成果を公開し、今後の研究に繋げていくことができた。
    地元商店街も現状に鑑み、外国人観光客より若者にターゲットを一旦シフトしている。したがって外国人対象のメニューなど、すでに当該地域に設置しているアプリケーションへの研究成果の反映までは大きなニーズが今はなく、そこまでの変更には至らなかった。

    Oku-Nikko area is mountainous, so more safety and security are required. We considered the priority of tourist information based on Maslow's stages of need, designed a smartphone application, and launched it. In addition, to provide information tailored to individual travelers, we used prospect theory to calculate reference points based on the experience and knowledge of individual tourists and developed technology to select the information that would raise expectations based on these reference points. In addition, brain wave measurements using a simple EEG sensor during forest bathing revealed a tendency for relaxation (alpha wave increase), especially near waterfalls and rivers. We also developed a prototype of a food guidance application for tourists from Muslim countries and India.
