Through literature study,interview researches and questionnaire survey, I explored the success factors and development processes of social enterprises (SEs) in Japan and analyzed the importance of the social entrepreneurship as the base of the social enterprises. Also, I focused on the "flow experience" advocated by psychologist, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, which is supposed to be created more among people working at SEs, and the attractiveness of labor at SEs and its value. In addition, I examined the traditional business ethics in Japanese companies, which emphasizes "relationships" embedded in the companies. As a result, I found that we could see that type of business ethics in the SEs in Japan and I discussed it was more important for the business at the age of CSR as compared to the different types of business ethics in foreign countries.In addition, I considered the role of social entrepreneurs in the recreation of the rural areas and the factors of their success.

Not only traditional cross cultural management theories, but also knowledge creation theories including strategic management, have hardly highlighted the impact of cross-border collaborative R & D activities on knowledge creation processes and the dynamic interconnectedness between these processes and diverse multicultural cognitive approaches from the perspective of the source of global competitiveness. This research has focused on Islamic Management and examined it in the context of global management. Islamic management has not yet been recognized in the modern management study, because there has been a self evident assumption that religion is nothing but an obstacle against efficiency In the era of sustainable development, however, the business management is required to be more ethics-oriented and has to find a way to attain a comprehensive efficiency keeping a balance between business profit and social welfare. In this regards, Islamic management can be a kind of business model, since Islamic management contains a strong business ethics which cannot be separated from the individual existence. In Islam, the ethical business practices are regarded as an important part of worship. Therefore, this study has attempted to illustrate the Shari'ah compliance, which is based on Islamic law regulating and instructing every aspect of Muslim activities.
As for a case study, Islamic financial market is mainly examined which is expanding and growing rapidly crossing the cultural boundaries. It is interesting that the globally active investors of non-Muslims have adopted the criteria of the Shari'ah compliance and apply it to their business. Moreover, it is important that the market function which is compliant to the Shari'ah consists of both exchange and gift. The complementary relationship of exchange and gift in the market can achieve a rationale in the society in a comprehensive manner and Islamic management can be business model in this regards as well.

The main purpose of this study is to examine the economic policies of Iran, Egypt and Syria individually and then compare them in order to make clearer the economic and social structure, which these three nations have possessed commonly.
It is strange enough that none of the Middle East countries has never attained an economic growth and success, although there is the big potentiality to do so. It is said that the economic failure of the region is due to the backwardness of the societies or mismanagement. However, it is not only the reason. The reason of the failure had been in the structure of the cold-war between the East and West as well as the development policies initiated by the U.S. after the W.W.II.
Therefore, this study has emphasized the following three points. The first is to find out the nature of the economic structure, that had been constructed preferably to the economically advanced countries. The second is to examine the details of the structural adjustment policies and their negative and affirmative effects on societies in these three countries. The third is to explain the role of the traditional social network in Islamic society, which has supported the people life having been deteriorated by the development policies.
The study on the Foundation and Background of the Commercial Cities in the Mediterranean

The purpose of this study is to compare about the foundation of the commercial cities in the Mediterranean between Europe and the Middle East, focusing on the institution of guild. It also aims at making clearer the difference of the roles and functions of the guilds and that of the societies in which the guilds are situated.
In the field research in Aleppo, Cairo, and Damietta, our team has made a research on the suq(traditional market in Islamic world) intensively, by interviewing the people in the suq and in the Chamber of Commerce, and collecting the valuable materials such as the ancient texts of the court records and the historical documents on this subject.
On the subject of the guild, which is the main theme of this study, we have focused on the Hirfa,I.e., Islamic cooperation of the artisans and merchants. Being different from the European guilds, Hirfa has been embedded in the market and never exercised the political and economic power independently. It was closely related with the institutions of Hisba and Muhtasib. Guild in Islamic world is totally different from that in Europe. Therefore, the difference of the nature and functions of the guild between the north of the Mediterranean(Europe) and the south(Islamic world) is one of the reflection of the difference of the culture and the structure of societies.
The Studies on Structure and Functions of the Traditional Economy : Souq Economy in Aleppo

We have carried out the following research activities in this year.
(1) Field research in Syria
In addition to the field researches on small khan in the suq in Aleppo in the last two years, we have started to make a research on the manufacturing industries in the private sector. In the researches, we have visited a factory of soap, which is one of the traditional products in Aleppo, and a modern type of factory of garments and of plastic products. The research items are formations of companies, positions of entrepreneurs, organizations for craftsmen and artisans, systems of empolyment, types of negotiation, manufacuturing's relationships with the suq, influences of liberalization policies on manufacturing and so on. As seen in the suq, a direct involvement of an entrepreneur in management is gerenally found. It can be said that there is no separation between ownership and management in terms of modern type of management. Another important point is that a scale of indutry is relatively small, and a main strategy is to produce a variety of goods in small lot for realizing <economy of scope>, not<economy of scale>.
(2) Invitation of Syrian co-investigators to Japan.
We invited Syrian co-investigators, Dr.K.Maghout and Dr.N.Sukkar to Japan for concluding the three-years' research program and presenting the results in public. For this purpose, we hold the open seminars in Tokyo, Niigata, Kyoto, Osaka, and kanagawa. In the seminars, both the traditional aspects and the present state policies were focused, and there was a vigorous discussion going on.
(3) Traslations of Original texts and construction of theory.
The characteristic of this program, which should be herewith specifically referred to, is a research method for examining the situations of the suq, which is based on a new theory having been developed by translating and examining the original texts of the related subjects. This project has mainly focused on the traditional suq economy, which has been neglected and never been examined seriously. It was not an easy task, but we could succeed in making clearer the functions and structure of the suq economy by examining the actual situations and developing the theory.
