本研究は、現在のマハーラーシュトラ州北部において13世紀に成立したマハーヌバーヴ派の根本聖典『リーラーチャリトラ』を取り扱い、中世後期に生じた帰依（バクティ）思想の民衆化という問題を考えるものである。
研究初年度にあたる本年度は、まず既に入手済みの刊本の目次およびイントロダクションにもとづいて、各章のおおまかな内容と粗筋を把握して、今後重点的に解読に取り組む箇所をいくつか決定した。「エーカーンカ」「プールヴァ・アルダ」「ウッタラ・アルダ」という三部構成のこの長大なテキストの中で、特に「ウッタラ・アルダ」において、後の教理書等に引用され、この派の帰依思想の展開において重要な位置を占めることになった箇所をいくつか確認し、分析を開始した。
2019年1月にはマハーラーシュトラ州のいくつかのマハーヌバーヴ僧院などにおいて写本調査を行った。まだカタログ化も為されておらず、多くの写本が個人や教団所蔵である現状において、網羅的な写本収集は現実的ではないため、可能な限り重要と思われる写本数点の所在を確認し、部分的にコピーを入手した。インド滞在中には現地の研究者との討議を行い、資料の読みや帰依思想の理解をより正確なものとした。帰国後は、現地にて収集した写本や二次資料を参照しつつ、テキストの校訂・解読を進めた。
以上の研究成果の一端は、井田克征「聖地と物語―マハーヌバーヴ教団の事例から」『聖地のポリティクス―ユーラシア地域大国の比較から』（杉本良夫・松尾瑞穂編）風響社，2019年3月，pp.87-112として刊行されるとともに、いくつかの学会報告などでも公にされた。

Social customs, matrimonial relationships, hereditary memberships and hierarchical structure in the local communities had been defined as 'caste' which was a self-consistent system peculiar to Indian society. The purpose of this project was to reconsider aspects of what has been called 'caste' in Marathi region. Kinship, vocational, fraternal, religious and stratified groups were uniformly treated under the name of 'caste'; nonetheless the principles of social cohesion actually inter-weaved with each other.
This research project shows that in the terms of modern Marathi discursive space, the narrative of caste was multifaceted per se.The grounds for their argument were their mythological lineage, social customs maintained by the group and historical records of the family property. The notion of 'caste' will be reconsidered from a multi-dimensional perspective. We hereafter are required to disentangle the composite nature of social cohesion in the local society.

Varkari sampraday which is known as a tradition of bhakti marga to the local god Vitthal was established in Mahatashtra in the 13th century, and developed into one of the influential religious circle in this area for a while. In this research project, I examined Ekanathi-Bhagavata which is a marathi commentary on the Bhagavata-Purana written by Ekanatha in 16th century, and considered its historical development of the theory of bhakti.

In this research project, I examined hindu scriptures such as the Sutrapath and Smrtisthal of the Mahanubhav sect developed in Maharashtra after 13th century. The sect's theory of avatars --- a manifestation of the supreme God(parameshvar) descended to the earth as a human --- became a fundamental concept of their saint worship. Then this concept also played an important roll in the later development of local and popular Hinduism in this area.

本研究は、南アジア地域において中世以降隆盛を極めたタントリズムの儀礼を対象とし、それが先行する宗教的伝統-具体的にいえばバラモン階層を中心としたヴェーダの宗教と、それ以外の社会階層において展開されたローカルな宗教-の影響を受けつつ、いかに展開していったかという問題を扱うものである。その一連の研究の最終年度として,本年度では以下のような研究を行った。
・古来より宗教的職能集団としてヴェーダ祭式を執り行い,また中世以降においてヒンドゥー教が発展する際には中核的役割を担ったバラモン階級に焦点を絞って,当時の社会の中で彼らがどのような立ち位置にあったのかということを調査した。具体的には,酒や肉などといった「穢れた」要素が,宗教的な文脈の中でどのように取り扱われているのかという問題を考察した。結果として,ヴェーダ期からタントラ期へと展開する中で,彼らバラモン階級は一方では酒を忌避し,また同時にその酒というものに特別な意味を与えて儀礼の中で多用するようにもなっていった,その様子が明かになった。この研究の一部分は,論文"Drinking Goddess, Non-drinking Brahmin"としてまとめられた。
・三年間に渡る本研究の現時点でのまとめとして,バクティという概念がタントリズムの中で果たした役割についての考察を執り行った。ヴェーダ的な儀礼主義の中核概念を引き継ぎながら独自の儀礼体系を展開させたタントリズムにおいて,人格的な姿を持った特定の神への帰依,信愛(bhakti)という概念は必ずしも必要なものとは言えなかった.それゆえにこのバクティの概念を換骨奪胎し,自らのシステムの中に組み込んでいくことでヴェーダ以来の儀礼主義と,冬至の宗教的潮流の一つの流行であったバクティの概念との間に折り合いをつけたのがこの時期(12世紀以降)のタントラ側の戦略であったというのがこの研究の結論である。この成果は「"ヒンドゥータントリズムにおけるバクティについて」として公刊された。
