本研究は、古代末期におけるhumanitas概念を、古典とキリスト教の両方の原典に基づいて思想史的に解明することを目的とする。古典のキケロ（前1世紀）から始め、ラテン教父たち、とりわけアウグスティヌス（354-430）における人間の弱さや罪を見つめるhumanitas概念の革新についての精査を通じて、古代末期の源流思想から人類共通のhumanitas概念を洗い出すものである。
本年度は、3年計画の第2年目で最新の研究状況をフォローアップし、様々な資料を目配りして検討すべき資料の補充を図った。ただし、コロナ禍により、海外の資料を直接手に取って検討したり対面での討議は滞った。前年度公刊したアウグスティヌス『詩編注解』担当部分（86，87編）の翻訳・注・解説（教文館『アウグスティヌス著作集』）や、事典の項目（「信仰と美学」）の寄稿（丸善出版『美学の事典』）を出発点として、本務校の「人間学」講義等を通じて、『神の国』第１１巻から１４巻テクストを精査し、原初の人間を（女と男の）「人間たち」という複数形で一貫して見据えるアウグスティヌス の「革新的」な人間観を確認し、その成果を「楽園の人間学」というタイトルで口頭発表した。また、「心」の人間学の構想をギリシア哲学とアウグスティヌス研究に照らして考察する特別講演や国際シンポジウム発表を行った。ただし、当初主力を注ぐことを目論んでいたキケロのhumanitas概念の再検討についてはあまり進めることができなかった。他方、人間の近代日本の転換期の「心」の問題に取り組んだ漱石夏目金之助の「哲学」探求についても、『硝子戸の中』や「点頭録」を中心に考察した。

In this project we conducted collaborative research on the concept of Con-viviality which appears in the texts of Church Fathers and their successors, such as Gregory of Nyssa, Augustin, Cassian, Dionysius, Thomas Aquinas, Barhebraeus, and Palamas. By analyzing their texts from philosophical, historical and liturgical points of view, their message for Con-viviality became clearer and more vivid and urges a change in the world divided by intolerance and conflicts.
In 2017, we held a symposium and published the fruit of it under the title of CHARITY AND CON-VIVIALITY. This was followed in 2018 by two symposia entitled Women in Christianity, during which we had Prof. V. Kontouma as our guest speaker, and we published the papers in a book entitled CONTRIBUTION OF WOMEN TO CON-VIVIALITY. Lastly, in 2019, we held two successive symposia on Representations of Con-viviality in Medieval Christianity, which resulted in the publication of CON-VIVIALITY REALIZED BY THE BEAUTY OF FORM AND SOPHIA.

（1）This study, based on the latest research on the ethics of Hellenism philosophy and the late antique history, surveys the theoretical formation and development of "virtue" related to wealth and poverty in late antiquity, which was established in the foundation of their rhetorical discourse, as a result of detailed reading of the original Latin text of Seneca, Augustine, and others. (2) As a result, it will integrate these two disciplines into the research in the history of ideas and open up the perspective towards the commitments confronting the actual settings beyond the limitation of today’s virtue ethics.

The main results of this research are the three points: 1) In modern Japan (in the late Meiji and Taisho periods), humanities research was positioned in the overall concept of “Gerontorogy”.2) From the past to the present, "40 years old" and "40s" are considered to be the beginning of "old age" from physical problems, from the past to the present, and it is important to reconsider the meaning of this age.3) In Japan, when thinking about "old age", there is a common sense that "Meiwaku wo kaketakunai".We consider this consciousness historically and comparatively culturally.

All through five years of the project we attempted to promote our research into our topic both through the joint seminars held regularly and continuous individual works. We also tried to make our results open to public through presentations at the international conferences, publication of articles and books. Sekine clarified the philosophical implications of the Bible and recently published "Philosophical Interpretations of the Old Testament" in English. Mishima published several articles on Bessarion and an English article on Plato.
Demura investigated into Augustine's concept of cor and read papers at the international conferences and published English articles on the subject. Takahashi did research into the theological ideas of Plato mainly expressed in "the Republic" and "the Laws" and published several articles.

This study deals with Augustine's theory and practice of the poor and poverty, thereby clarifying and explaining what he takes to be the spiritualisation of the poverty in late-antique North African community. The works of the bishop of Hippo, such as the early treatises, Sermons to the people, City of God, and Expositions of the Psalms, show the consistent and persistent tendency to spiritualise the poverty in an era of crisis. This research has been stimulated by the growth of international exchange among Australian, Korean, and Japanese scholars.
キリスト教古代でのギリシア的徳の変遷をモデルとしたモラルの観念の成立に関する研究

本研究では、古代のモラルの変遷の諸相についての試掘調査として、アレクサンドリアのフィロン、オリゲネス、アウグスティヌスを取り上げ、ギリシア的徳の代表である四つの徳アレテ-(勇気節制知恵正義)を指標として採用し、彼らが主張するモラルの完成した相、すなわち、善き人間のあり方において、これら四元徳がどの様に位置づけられているかを考慮した。CD-ROMテキストデータベースから抽出した資料によれば、フィロンでは、「神の知恵が人に諸徳を教える」ということをモチーフにして、諸徳が神からの連続的流出的イメージのうちにとらえられている。また、オリゲネスでは、神的徳と人間的徳を論理的に媒介する項を見いだされ、これに焦点を合わせることによって、一見同名異義的に用いられる二種類の徳概念の統一が図られている。他方、アウグスティヌスでは、さらに、神からの働きかけが強調され、ギリシア的徳は価値転換が施され、愛の秩序が構想されていることが確認された。この変遷を、中期プラトン主義から新プラトン主義、さらに知のモラルから信ないし意志のモラルへの変容とまとめるのは単純にすぎるかも知れないが、いずれにせよ、知恵神学を底流にしてこれへの解釈学的転回が確認された点が新しい知恵といえよう。これに引き続いて、さらに数人の思想家を調査するとともに、採用する指標をさらに工夫し、特に、神を直接言及しない形で人間の徳がどの様に変容させられているか、などを考慮して、現代のモラルの構造の解明にも寄与する予定である。
