In this research I tried to develop system, learning materials and methods for the e-Learning system on the modern German cultures. The main purposes consist of following points.
1)To develop a small and practical system of e-Learning for the modern German cultures, so that teachers don't need a professional knowledge about the e-Learning system.
2)To develop learning materials with texts, images and sounds for the modern German literature, child literature, film and arts.
3)To develop learning methods for the modern German literature, children literature, film and arts, also methods for the multimedia literacy.
On the first step I developed the simple learning system and materials with MS-Word, which should help students to master basic knowledge of the modern German cultures. This step was performed successfully.
On the second step I developed the small e-Learning system with simple computer program. While I used this e-Learning system in my lectures, several serious problems occurred. It means that another step of research is now needed to solve them.

The aim of this research is the analysis of lyric texts and songtexts of social critical songs in the websites. They were analysed about the concept, the design, the function, information programm etc. This research clarifies the possibility and the problems of the Internet as a language work transferring medium. About the lyricism poetry site, multimedia type sites, such as reading of poetry with introduction of the poetry by language, an interpretation and introduction of a poet with a picture, and a sound, increased in number. Moreover, e -Learnig sites of the lyricism poetry by the public organization or the university are also gradually increased in number. This kind of site is equipped with the search engine by the Web database and also with a mutual link to a poetic text page and a poet's description page. However,some questions remain about whether the website is suitable as a medium for reading poetry. Socalled "art experience by language" becomes superficial in this e-Learnig site of lyric. It is also mentioned as a fault that there is too much amount of information and the degree of concentration of reading experience falls. Furthermore, it is physically the burden of an eye to read a poem in the website. When Japanese people visit the German lyricism poetry website,technical and linguistic difficulty are yet large now, so that it is also required to build the own lyricism poetry site equipped with work translation in Japan. About a critical singer-songwriter's website, there are now not so many sites in this kind. It is because the site construction of the multimedia type with the still picture, the sound, the animation, etc., requires special knowledge. The problem of copyright is also large as compared with construction of a lyricism poetry site. Since not only words but the music is of high value about a social critical popular music work, the words introduction accompanied by music is important. Although the website as an information transferring medium of lyricism poetry is suitable for reference of many poems in a database, it can point out that it is not suitable to appreciation. The website as an information transffering medium of social critical popular music is effective when music and an animation follow. As a conclusion it can't be suitable to read poems or songtexts at a lyricism poetry site especially because "art experience by language" is thin in this case.

A Study of the History of the literatural and cultural Exchanges between Japan and Germany

The aim of this research is to analyse the history of Japan-Germany literatural and cultural exchanges. It is also aimed to analyse the present features of cultural exchanges of two countries. The research is based on database analysis. The aspects of the analysis are the correlation of changes of the social class which bears culture, and that of media industry and cultural communication of Japan and Germany. In the first year we improved conditions required for database construction. In the following year we made it possible to use an Access database as a Web database using ASP (Active Server Pages), which improved the accuracy and speed of data analysis. Moreover, Web database construction is effective as basic technology of the history research of cultural exchanges. This is mentioned as a technical result of this research. In the third year we analysed the features of Japan-Germany literatural and cultural exchanges on the basis of the database built until now. It was aimed at German literature, the German juvenile literature, the German movie, and the German fine arts as research fields. We analysed the translations of the German literature in Japan from 1880 to 1995 , the translations of every writer, the translation of every work, translation made by every publishing company, etc. The results were specifically graphized, and the factors of a change were made clear from social backgrounds and the history of media. As a result it was clarified that two World Wars were deeply concerned with acceptance of the German literature in Japan. The acceptance immediately after World War I and World War II was rapidly increased. The same result was obtained about the German juvenile literature. About the German movie, it became clear in data that the acceptance of prewar days was more prosperous than postwar acceptance and that the peak of acceptance is in the 50s and the first half of the 80s after the war. The acceptance of the German modern arts was promoted by the exhibitions of department store attached art museums especially from the 80s. But the closing of department store attached art museums due to the economical depression after the second half of the 90s lead to the decreasing of the German fine-arts-related exhibition. Furthermore, the international symposium, in which the researcher of three universities in the United States and two South Korean universities took part in, was held at the Chuo University and took a high reputation of the researchers.

The purpose of this research was a text analyze of message songs in Germany and Austria in the recent years. In 1999 I analyzed mainly the message songs in Germany, and in 2000 those of Austria. I made databases of the song texts und of songs in MP3 format. Besides I surveyed the articles about message songs in the National Library in Berlin and Vienna.
In analyzing the message songs it was certified that the main social problems were reflected in themes of the songs, for example, the environmental problems, the discrimination against foreigners and women, conflicts of west and east in Germany since 1990. It was also confirmed that the message songs of 70's became revival hits in the tendency of nostalgia in 90's.
It was also tried to theorize the characteristics of German message songs. It was then supposed that the development of TV and LP records could be main factors of declining of message songs since 70's. In addition it could be supposed that the change of popular music styles and the development of CD records ware the reasons of further declining of political message songs in 80's.
As a research result I wrote three papers and delivered one.
