    <p>In previous studies, PVDF piezoelectric film was fabricated and the output voltage was measured under impact force. In this study, we will improve the method for fabricating PVDF membrane and annealing temperature. It was found that the higher the annealing temperature, the higher the output voltage. In addition, the stability of the PVDF film produced by this method is improved.</p>

    <p>The cylindrical rubber is axially reinforced by the fiber and closed by the rigid ends. When the inner pressure is applied to this fiber reinforced rubber cylinder, the diameter expands and the length shrinks. Such the cylinder can be used as the soft actuator, that is, the artificial muscle.This artificial muscle has high contractive force and amounts compared to McKibben-type artificial muscle which is used widely. However, durability of the artificial muscle is not enough for practical use. In this paper, we analyzed the rubber cylinder theoretically. Firstly, the differential equation, which is satisfied the cylinder's profile, is derived. Secondly, the solution is obtained as the closed form, when the rubber is soft enough compared to the fiber. Finally, it is found that the profile of the rubber cylinder is given by the incomplete elliptic integral, when the inner pressure is large enough.</p>

    <p>The elasticoluminescent materials emit with respect to stress and have the phosphorescence with the gradually decreasing emitting light. In this study, we present the formula to characterize the phosphorescence light emitting by considering the absorption of the emitted light. The time dependence of the emitting light intensity from the epoxy reign specimen doped with the elasticoluminescent material (SrAl2 O4 :Eu2+ powder) is measured, and compared to the present formula. The measured data and the calculated data are in good agreement.</p>

    <p>Uniaxial tensile load is applied to the acrylic resin plat containing a fluorescent substance. A laser beam is irradiated to one point of the test piece where stress is generated, and photons of the test piece are detected with a photomultiplier. Change in photon number and fluorescence lifetime are obtained from photons detected by temporally correlated single photon counting method. By comparing with the load measured by the load cell, the relationship between stress and fluorescence is investigated.</p>

    It is important to measure the defect of objects. The radiated sound from the impacted body has many types of information, and it also has the information of the defect. Therefore, in this study, we propose a method in order to identify the position and the size of the defect in the impacted body by measuring the radiated sound pressure. In the proposed method, we calculate the time dependence of the radiated sound pressure from the impacted body with the supposed defect by using FEM analysis. The defect position and size can be given in order to match the time dependence of the sound pressure with the measured sound pressure. In order to obtain much information involved in the defect, it is necessary to measure the sound pressure in the wide range. However, it is difficult to prepare hundreds of microphones to measure the radiated sound distribution. Thus, we constructed the measuring system of the sound pressure distribution by moving a microphone and applying the same impact force to the body. In this system, we can measure fictionally the sound pressure distribution on the plane over (Formula presented.) area with (Formula presented.) resolution. The efficiency of the proposed method is confirmed by some experiments.

    Herein we examined the extent of replicability of the PDMS microchamber device transferred from the master mold with complex 3D structures fabricated via micro stereolithography. Due to the elastomeric properties of PDMS, the reversely tapered micromold, with the diameter ratio of similar to 5 from the largest to the narrowest part, was precisely transferred without breaking. We obtained the mathematical model to estimate the stress exerted on the mold during the demolding process. Finally, we tested the applicability of this unusual microchamber for single-cell trapping and an enzyme assay.

    <p>FEM analysis was conducted with the joint as the contact area, and the stress concentration factor of the male wood and female wood was calculated. Based on the results, we proposed a formula to calculate the stress concentration coefficient of male wood and female wood. From the calculation formula, it was possible to obtain the optimum sickle jaw width S when the length of the head portion length L was determined. In addition, a sickle joint was made by using homogeneous material acrylic, a tensile test was conducted, and the validity of the proposed stress concentration calculation formula was examined. As a result, the trends of the experimental result and the analysis result roughly agreed. Therefore, it can be said that the proposed formula is valid.</p>

    <p>It is important for industrial products to measure the displacement and stress in impacted objects. The time-dependence of the displacement can be given by the acceleration on the surface of the objects. On the other hand, the sound pressure, which is generated from the surface of the object, contains the information of the acceleration of the surface. Then, the acceleration at the surface of the object can be given by the generated sound pressure, which can be measured by non-contact measurement. Therefore, the time-dependence of the displacement and stress could be given by measuring the sound pressure from the objects. In this study, we proposed the method to identify the distribution of the acceleration on the surface of the plate by measuring the sound pressure. At the first step of the study, the acceleration on the surface is distribute along the x direction only. This acceleration is denoted with the power series expansion. The relationship between the coefficients of the power series and the sound pressure is obtained theoretically. Thus, the time-dependence of the surface acceleration is given by using sound pressure.     The radiated sound from the impacted body must have the information with respect to the impact force and the other properties. We have proposed the method in order to identify the impact force and many properties by analyzing the radiated sound from the impacted body. In the present method, the relationship between the impact force and the radiated sound pressure is calculated by using FEM analysis. And, the time dependence of the impact force, the impact placement, the Young's modulus of the impacted body and the radius of the impact bar are identified by using least square method and the measured sound pressure of the many microphones. By the actual experiments, the efficiency of the proposed method is confirmed.

    The behaviors of a material are nonlinear in the large deformed region. The hyper elastic models can describe such non linear materials. If the hyper elastic material is applied to the hydrostatic tensile load, the void begins to grow when the load exceed the critical value. It is important to study the coalescence of the void growth in order to consider the destruction of the material. In this paper, the void growth simulations in the hyper-elastic material with multiple seeds are studied. The unit rectangular cell with small voids is subjected to the hydrostatic tensile load. This problem can be analyzed by FEM. However, the simulation with the larger number of the voids is not possible. Thus, the CA (Cellular Automaton) is used to describe the behaviors of the void coalescence and the possibility of CA is discussed.

    The void growth simulations in Ni crystal are proceeded by using Molecular Dynamics (MD) and FEM. The energy function of the hyper elastic material for FEM is determined in order to satisfy the mechanical properties, which are given by the potential function of the MD for Ni crystal. The same models are simulated by these different methods and the results are compared to each other.

    Atom-order void formation in a defective crystalline material is studied by using molecular dynamics method (MD). Infinite long cylinder, which is constructed with nickel atoms with a line of vacancies, is subjected to multiaxial tensile strain field by moving periodic boundary and the atoms on the outer surface of the cylinder. When the load exceeds a critical value, sudden appearance of the void is observed and it develops rapidly. The developed void does not disappear by only unloading and relaxation, in spite of the system with the void has higher potential energy than that without void. The biaxial or the triaxial load is necessary to the atom order void formation. Moreover, the results by the MD simulations are compared with theoretical solution for nonlinear elastic solid.

    In this paper, we discuss the influence of the temperature dependence of material properties on transient thermal stresses in functionally gradient materials (FGMs). We consider a circular plate of FGM (ZrO2 and Ti-6 Al-4V) subjected to one rapid heating-cooling cycle. We analyze the transient thermal stresses by means of a finite element method. When the temperature dependence of material properties is considered, the maximum tensile stress is 10% less than the FGM with constant material properties at 300 K, and the maximum compressive stress is 30% less than that at 300 K. The maximum tensile stress is the lowest when the material properties of FGM are distributed linearly. The influence of the heating condition is also discussed.

    The generalized stress intensity factor has been defined at the bottom of the V-notch to represent the stress field, but it is difficult to determine the critical value of the generalized stress intensity factor KC. Therefore, in the present investigation, we propose the method to determine this critacal value by using the molecular dynamic method. The problem of the band plate with a V-notch which is subjected to the shear deformation is investigated by the molecular dynamic method. The stress field, when the atm at the bottom of the V-notch begins to dislocate, is obtained. Using this stress field, KC can be given, and the relationship between KC and the opening angle of the V-notch is shown.

    The contact torsion problem of two cylindrical rods is investigated by considering the sliding contact. When the two semi-infinite rods are contacted at each end, pressure is divided at the corner due to the stress singularity. Thus, the analysis proceeds in consideration of this stress singularity by using the series expansion method. It is considered that the shear stress is linear to the pressure in the sliding region. The relationships between the sliding region and the torque or the friction coefficient are obtained by numerical calculation.

    A functionally gradient material which decreases thermal stresses has been developed for structural components and/or mechanical elements in fields such as nuclear, aircraft and space engineering fields. Steady-state thermal stresses in a plate made of the functionally gradient material with temperature-dependent material properties are discussed. The main theme of this subject is how to distribute the components of the materials in the functionally gradient material to decrease thermal stress. The plate of an optimally functionally gradient material was determined to decrease the steady thermal stresses.

    The present paper discusses an analytical method for an inverse problem of three-dimensional transient thermoelasticity in a transversely-isotropic solid. The inverse thermoelastic problem consists of the determination of the condition of heating when the conditions of displacements and stresses are given at some points of the solid considered. Applying the Laplace and Fourier transforms as well as the new potential function method, the temperature, displacements, and stresses are represented by the potential functions alone, and they are determined from the prescribed conditions. The heating condition is obtained from the boundary condition for the temperature field. As a practical example of an inverse problem, the heating temperature of a transversely-isotropic infinite circular cylinder is determined in the case where the radial displacement is given at an arbitrary cylindrical section and the radial and shear stresses are free on the lateral surface of the cylinder. Numerical calculations are carried out to illustrate the heating temperature of the cylinder as well as the temperature and stresses on the lateral surface of the cylinder.

    An impact torsion problem for a steppedbar composed of two semi-infinite bars bonded completely at each end is investigated. A stress singularity occurs at the corner of the bars. Therefore the stress analysis proceeds considering this stress singularity by making use of the series expansion technique, and the problems are reduced to an infinite set of systems of linear equations for each time step. A parameter which is similar to the stress intensity factor of a crack is defined. The values of this parameter, the displacement and the stresses are shown for various values of the mechanical properties of the bars.

    Torsion problems for two rods bonded each other by an adhesive layer are investigated. It is assumed in analyses that the mechanical behavior of the adhesive layer is approximated by that of shear springs, and hence the shear stress τθz in the adhesive layer can be proportional to the difference of the displacements υθ between the upper and the lower surface of the adhesive layer. Making use of the series expansion techniques, we reduce the problems to the infinite systems of linear equations which can be solved numerically. Then, the stress distributions are obtained for various values of mechanical properties of the rods and the adhesive layer. We also investigate the special case of these problems i. e. the torsion of a half space by an adhered rigid rod.

    In resent year, students have a little experience of destructions. They have not know how materials to break and where forces to concentrate. It is important to have the experiences as strain measurement, pulling test, destruction test and so on in order to recognize the mechanics of materials. But, it is difficult to make the experiment in the lecture room for more than 100 students. On the other hand, smart phones such as iPhone are developed and interactive operation is easily carried out. Thus, our group has been making the applications for iPad and iPhone. But, it is not easy to make complicate application with rich functions. However, the number of device with Android OS by Google is greater than one with iOS by Apple. Therefore, in this study, the some applications for the devices with Android OS, in order to make experience related to the mechanics of materials are constructed.

    In this study, we proposed the method to determine the Young's modulus of the late and the early part of the wood by using the indentation test and the numerical analysis. We used the sphere indenter. The test is made within elastic region. The artificial wood specimen is made from the acrylic resin as the late part and the lubber as the early part of the wood. It is confirmed the Young's modulus of the acrylic resin and the lubber can be determined by the indentation test. The late and early part of a Japanese cedar can be measured. Moreover, microscopic indentation is made.

    n resent year, students have a little experience of destructions. They have not know how materials to break and where forces to concentrate. It is important to have the experiences as strain measurement, pulling test, destruction test and so on in order to recognize the mechanics of materials. Thus, we have been making the desktop experiment kits by which students can proceed to do the experiments. But, it is difficult to make the experiment in the lecture room for more than 100 students. On the other hand, smart phones such as iPhone are developed and interactive operation is easily carried out. In this study, we propose the some applications for a smart phone, which is interactive and similar to the real experiment. By the proposed applications, a student can apply the force, displacement and temperature to the materials by moving their fingers and can observe the extension, internal force, stress, strain, and stress concentration of the materials.

    By using a tablet computer, we propose the some applications, which is more interactive than the virtual machine and similar to the real experiment. By the proposed application, a student can apply the force, displacement and temperature to the materials by moving their fingers and can observe the extension, internal force, stress, strain and thermal stress of the materials. Some applications, which are related to a pulling test, a bending of beam and a thermal stress, are made.     著者らは,ナノインデンテーション,マイクロインデンテーション,曲げ試験,引張試験を行い木材の弾性係数の測定を試みて来た(1), (2).本研究では,スギ材の試験片を用い,球形圧子によるマクロ領域での押し込み試験により,縦弾性係数の平面的な分布を測定し,早材部,晩材部の縦弾性係数の決定の可能性を検討する.まず,試験方法の妥当性を明らかにするために,木材と比較的近い弾性係数を持つフッ素ゴムと塩化ビニル樹脂で押し込み試験を行った.ついで,木材の押し込み試験を行い,早材部,晩材部,それぞれの縦弾性係数の決定を試みている.

    In this paper, the elastic modulus of the early part and the late part of Japanese cedar is measured by the three methods. These methods are the bending test, micro indentation and nanoindentation. Measured data are compared to each other. It is defined that the measured value by the micro indentation test is smaller than the values by the other two methods. This phenomenon should be related to the micro structure of the wood. It is confirmed that the farther study is required in order to get distinct mechanism.
